Mississippi State guard Dellquan Warren plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Mississippi State’s offseason roster movement is already underway. Bulldogs guard Dellquan Warren plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal when the window opens on April 7. His agent confirmed the news to On3’s Joe Tipton.
The portal will remain open through April 21 as part of the NCAA’s newly implemented 15-day transfer window, though players are not required to commit within that timeframe. Warren’s decision comes after two seasons in Starkville, where opportunities were limited.
The Erie, Penn., native appeared in 26 games as a freshman but did not make a start, averaging just 6.2 minutes per contest. While he showed flashes in limited action, including his early-season performance this past year against North Alabama, Warren struggled to carve out a consistent role in Mississippi State’s rotation.
That trend continued into his sophomore campaign. Warren played in 19 games during the 2025-26 season, averaging roughly seven minutes per outing while finishing with 1.2 points and 0.9 assists per game. Despite incremental increases in playing time, the opportunity never fully materialized for the young guard in a crowded backcourt.
Now, he’ll look for a fresh start elsewhere. Warren will become part of what is expected to be significant roster turnover for Mississippi State following a disappointing season.
The Bulldogs finished 13-19 overall, marking the program’s lowest win total in over a decade and one of its toughest seasons in recent memory. That result has triggered an offseason reset for head coach Chris Jans.
Moreover, Mississippi State is already set to lose multiple key contributors, including starters Jayden Epps, Shawn Jones Jr., Quincy Ballard and Achor Acho. With that level of departure, the roster is expected to undergo a major reshaping heading into next season.

At the same time, the program is focused on retaining its young core. Players like standout guard Josh Hubbard, along with freshmen Jamarion Davis-Fleming and King Grace, represent the foundation moving forward as Jans looks to rebuild a competitive roster in the SEC.
Warren’s exit underscores the reality of the modern college basketball landscape, where roster fluidity has become the norm. Especially following down seasons.
For Warren, the transfer portal presents an opportunity to find a system and situation that better fits his skill set and offers a clearer path to playing time. As for Mississippi State, it’s another step in what’s shaping up to be a pivotal offseason in Starkville.
