Mississippi State’s offseason roster shakeup continues. Sergej Macura plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal after completing his sophomore season with the Bulldogs, adding another departure to a program already navigating significant change.

The portal window opens April 7 and runs through April 21 as part of the NCAA’s new 15-day transfer period. As is standard, Macura will not be required to commit to a new school within that timeframe, allowing him to explore his options fully.

Macura appeared in a rotational role during the 2025-26 season, averaging 5.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. The forward provided size and effort in the frontcourt, contributing on the glass and offering interior presence, but like several players on the roster, he struggled to find any consistent footing in a challenging season.

His decision comes as part of a broader wave of roster movement in Starkville. Earlier this offseason, guard Dellquan Warren also announced plans to enter the portal, signaling the beginning of what is expected to be a significant overhaul.

Warren’s departure followed two seasons of limited opportunities, as he averaged just over a minute increase in playing time as a sophomore but never carved out a consistent role in the rotation. For Mississippi State, the exits reflect a program at a crossroads.

Head coach Chris Jans is coming off one of the most difficult seasons of his tenure, as the Bulldogs finished 13-19 overall, their lowest win total in over a decade. The disappointing campaign has prompted a full-scale reset, with multiple key contributors also moving on.

Among those expected to depart are starters Jayden Epps, Shawn Jones Jr., Quincy Ballard and Achor Acho, leaving major gaps on both ends of the floor. With that level of turnover, the roster will look dramatically different heading into next season.

At the same time, Mississippi State is focused on building around its young core. Guard Josh Hubbard remains a centerpiece, while players like Jamarion Davis-Fleming and King Grace are viewed as important pieces for the future.

Macura’s exit underscores the reality of the modern college basketball landscape, where roster fluidity is constant, particularly after a down year. For Macura, the portal offers a chance at a fresh start and a potentially larger role elsewhere.

With his size, rebounding ability and experience at the SEC level, he’s likely to draw interest from programs seeking frontcourt depth. For Mississippi State, it’s another step in what is shaping up to be a pivotal offseason, one that could define the program’s trajectory moving forward.
