Michigan OT Ty Haywood plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Michigan OT Ty Haywood plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett and Pete Nakos. Haywood was a true freshman in 2025.
As a member of the 2025 recruiting class, Haywood was a four-star recruit per the Rivals Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 48 overall player and the eighth-ranked offensive tackle in his class.
During his junior season in high school, Haywood was credited with 58 pancake blocks and zero sacks allowed in 2023. His senior season in 2024 saw him help lead a rushing attack that averaged 203 rushing yards per game and 44 rushing touchdowns.
His portal entry comes after the dismissal of offensive line coach Grant Newsome. Haywood was originally committed to Kalen DeBoer and Alabama, but flipped his commitment to Michigan before his freshman season.

Haywood played in two games for the Wolverines in 2025, making his collegiate debut along the Wolverines’ offensive line against Central Michigan. He later saw snaps at left tackle at Maryland.
Haywood is one of 23 players who have entered the NCAA transfer portal for Michigan since it opened on Jan. 2. The volume of players leaving isn’t surprising given the abrupt coaching turnover that took place during bowl prep. Former head coach Sherrone Moore was fired with cause following a scandal that later resulted in his arrest. He was immediately terminated, and the Wolverines’ coaching search began.
After more than two decades coach Utah, Kyle Whittingham was named as the next head coach at Michigan just days before the Citrus Bowl against Texas. Across his 21 seasons at the helm, he led the Utes to a 177-88 record with three conference championships eight ten-win seasons, and an 11-6 bowl record.
