Mark Ingram reacts to Sherrone Moore court video: 'Looked like a shell of himself'

Former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore is now facing criminal charges that stem from his alleged actions following his firing. Now, the fallout of the situation has seemingly been felt across all of college football.

The difficult situation was punctuated by images of Moore appearing via video in court. With that video in mind, Mark Ingram shared some of his own thoughts on the situation.

“We all love college football,” Mark Ingram said. “We all love sports, and we obviously heard the amount of coaches who have been fired in college football, but when you start hearing the information of what transpired to cause this firing, you start thinking of the human element of it. All the lives that are impacted, not only a program in Michigan, one of the blue bloods in college football, but Sherrone Moore, family, children, another family. You know what I mean? So, you just start having sympathy and empathy for these families that are being impacted and these lives that are being changed forever.”

Sherrone Moore would be fired for cause for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Shortly after that, it was announced that he’d been detained by police following an incident at the staff member’s home. Allegedly, Moore broke into a staff member’s home and retrieved knives and scissors, and then used them to threaten to harm himself.

Then, on Friday, December 12th, Moore faced those official charges in court. That includes home invasion in the third degree, stalking, and breaking and entering. The home invasion charge would be a third degree felony.

“And I can’t help but to hope that they can heal and be able to move forward with their lives,” Ingram said. “Because I know as painful as it is, I saw the Sherrone Moore video. When he was doing the court thing. He looked like a shell of himself, he looked like a shell of himself, man. He looked lifeless.”

Moore had been at Michigan since 2018, when he landed a job as a tight ends coach. He’d later be promoted to offensive coordinator. Then, in 2024, he was promoted to head coach to replace Jim Harbaugh. During his time as an assistant, there had been both on-field cheating and recruiting violations scandals.

“As someone who has spoken to Sherrone Moore, you spoke about him being maybe a little bit over his skis,” Ingram said. ” But I think he was dealt a hand and he played his hand the best way he possibly could. Coach Harbaugh leaves. There’s suspensions. There’s all this bad stuff that got handed down to him. I thought he handled it really well. Obviously, his players loved playing for him, but ultimately, to hear the information that’s happened, it’s heartbreaking and my heart and thoughts and prayers go out to all the families involved. Hopefully, everyone can heal and continue to move forward with their lives.”

Now, Moore is going to need to focus on his upcoming legal battle. Meanwhile, Michigan continues its search for a new head coach.
