Head coach Dusty May is not slowing down after winning a national championship. Michigan got right to work in the NCAA transfer portal, looking to build a squad capable of cutting down the nets once again.

Now, the Wolverines are bringing in a top center for a visit. Cincinnati transfer Moustapha Thiam will be in Ann Arbor on Sunday, On3’s Joe Tipton has learned. Thiam is considered the No. 13 overall player to enter this cycle, per the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. A massive development for Michigan, looking to add a highly sought-after guy.

Thiam spent just one season at Cincinnati after beginning his career at UCF. No matter where he ends up, this will be school No. 3 in as many years for him. But solid development has certainly taken place thus far. This past year saw Thiam average 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Michigan would enjoy his ability near the rim, making over 57% of shots from inside the arc on around an average of eight attempts.

On Friday, Tipton provided some intel on what has been going on inside Thiam’s recruitment. Plenty of schools are currently considered to be in the running. You can get the full scoop here.

Michigan hoping to keep momentum following national championship

Around this time last year is a time Michigan can point to. May put together a great transfer portal class, headlined by Yaxel Lendeborg. Players brought into the program eventually helped them win the national championship. As mentioned, the goal is to pull off the same thing heading into 2026-2027.

The Wolverines currently have one commitment. JP Estrella decided to leave Knoxville after playing for Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers. He heads to the Big Ten after being a quality player for the Vols inside the SEC. Estrella fits the mold May is attempting to build in the backcourt.

More is certainly on the way in the coming days. Michigan is as motivated as anybody in college basketball to put together a quality roster. Especially since conference foes in the Big Ten are keeping up at the same pace. Going after players such as Thiam prove as such just days after a title.
