Report: Charlie Weis Jr. turns down Philadelphia Eagles OC vacancy, will stay with LSU
LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. spoke with the Philadelphia Eagles about their offensive coordinator opening, per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. However, he informed the Eagles will stay with the Tigers and coach under Lane Kiffin.
Funny enough, Weis denied NFL interest earlier this month when he was linked to other jobs. After all, Weis stayed on board with Ole Miss for the College Football Playoff before fully diving into LSU with Kiffin after the latter left prior to the CFP.
Weis Jr. told On3’s Chris Low he had no interest in going to the NFL. He remains committed to LSU: “I’m fired up about finishing the job at Ole Miss and the future at LSU,” he stated to Low.
There were initially rumors linking Weis to the New York Giants. New York ended up hiring John Harbaugh as their new head coach.
Still, the opportunity to reunite with Jaxson Dart, the Giants’ first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, sounded appealing from the outside for Weis Jr. His father, Charlie Weis Sr., has a long history of coaching in the NFL. Weis Sr. also has a longstanding relationship with the Giants’ ownership after getting his professional start in New York under legendary head coach Bill Parcells in 1990.

Moreover, Dart is coming off a breakout rookie season in New York, where he’s firmly in the Offensive Rookie of the Year race after being the No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Dart took over as the Giants’ starting quarterback in Week 4 after opening the season as the backup to veteran Russell Wilson.
Now that Weis Jr. is no longer available, the Eagles’ search for a new OC continues. Philadelphia fired Kevin Patullo after one season in the role following a 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round.
Now that Eagles have moved on from Patullo, the new OC will have a loaded offense featuring Jalen Hurts, Barkley, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert, as of now. It remains to be seen who they will target, considering ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported Philadelphia could look for an OC with more experience than recent history.
Patullo was with the Eagles under Sirianni sine 2021 as the pass game coordinator. He was also the associate head coach in ’23 and ’24, helping the team win Super Bowl LIX last year.
