Louisville forward Sananda Fru plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Joe Tipton. He averaged 9.0 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Cardinals this past season.

He was a regular starter for the Cardinals, cracking the opening lineup in 29 of the 35 games he appeared in while averaging 22.0 minutes per game for Pat Kelsey’s squad. Notably, he shot 75.3% from the floor — making 128 of his 170 shots attempted.

Fru is a native of Berlin, Germany and played one season for Louisville. It was his first season playing under the NCAA banner after playing for Loewen Braunschweig in the German BBL for four seasons.

He started in 35 of 39 games he appeared in for Loewen Braunschweig in his last season in Europe, which includes a game win the FIBA Europe Cup. He averaged 12.6 points per game to go along with 6.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game on a 64.5% clip. Moreover, Fru has also represented his country as he competed with the German national team in 2022 and 2023 on its FIBA U20 squad.

Fru was rated as the No. 169 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class in turn, per the Rivals Industry Rankings which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 36 big man in this past cycle as well, earning him a three-star distinction.

As for Louisville, the Cardinals finished a promising second year under Kelsey with a 24-11 record. Louisville’s season concluded in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after falling to Tom Izzo and Michigan State.

The future is bright for Louisville, however, Fru will not be a part of the program moving forward it appears. The NCAA transfer portal officially opens on April 7 — the day after the national championship game.
