Kansas freshman Marcus Adams Jr. leaving program, requests NLI release
Kansas freshman Marcus Adams Jr.‘s time in Lawrence is now over before it got started. The four-star small forward enrolled at KU in June, but tells On3 he’s asking for a release from his National Letter of Intent and will look to find a new home.
Adams, a 6-foot-8 prospect out of Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne, committed to the Jayhawks in March, choosing Bill Self and Co. over Syracuse and UCLA. Shortly after committing, Adams made the move to the 2023 class, reclassifying from 2024.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Adams is the No. 66 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle. He’s also the No. 14 small forward prospect and the No. 11 player in the state of California. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Adams provided the following statement to On3:
“I want to thank Jayhawk Nation and coach Self and Townsend for being a great help in my development and time here. Your support showed me a lot. To the fans, thank you for all the help with the media and the in-person love.
“I would like to request a release from my National Letter of Intent in order to find out where I truly belong. It was a hard decision. I decided it would be best for me mentally and for my family. I will re-open my recruitment as well. Thank you and please respect my decision.”
