Report: Florida State kicker Conor McAneney arrested on felony charges after confrontation with police officer
Florida State sophomore kicker Conor McAneney was arrested Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale and charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and trespassing in an occupied structure, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s jail records. McAneney’s arrest was first reported by Miami-based radio host Andy Slater.
McAneney, who is originally from Northern Ireland, transferred to FSU from Division II Quincy (Illinois) in January as one of two kickers signed this offseason, along with Gabe Panikowski, formerly of Oklahoma State. The 6-foot-3 McAneney is a kickoff specialist who averaged 60.2 yards on 49 kickoffs last season at Quincy, where he went 7-of-10 on field goal attempts with a long of 45 yards in 2025.
Florida State underwent an overhaul at kicker after last year’s starter Jake Weinberg and backup Brunno Reus both departed via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. Weinberg transferred to ACC rival Miami, while Reus transferred to Missouri.
Weinberg connected on 12-of-19 on field goals in 2025 and started all 12 games last season for the Seminoles. He previously redshirted in 2024 after appearing in just four games that season. Meanwhile, Reus was two-of-two on extra point tries while appearing in four games in 2025 to maintain his redshirt.

Joel Klatt on Florida State: ‘There really isn’t any light at the end of that tunnel’
Following back-to-back extremely disappointing seasons for Florida State, FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt is not high on the Seminoles heading into the 2026 season. Since enjoying one of the program’s best seasons in 2023, when the ‘Noles went 13-1 and won the ACC Championship, FSU has gone just 7-17 over the past two seasons, including a dismal 2-10 season in 2024. That was just the third time in program history that the Seminoles suffered double-digit losses.
And while 2025 began with hope after a season-opening upset of a Top 10-ranked Alabama, Florida State lost seven of its last nine games to end the year and finished 5-7 on the season. Given those struggles, as well as the offseason retirement of offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, Klatt isn’t expecting much from the ‘Noles in 2026.
“Florida State was down bad last year, and there really isn’t any light at the end of the tunnel,” Klatt said in a mid-February episode of The Joel Klatt Show podcast. “What happened after Week 1 when they beat Alabama … it did not go well. Did not go well. QB looks like it will be Ashton Daniels, who has bounced around. Was Auburn‘s backup last year until he played at the end of the season after starting at Stanford. Is that the answer you want? I don’t know. And then, late in the coaching carousel process, (offensive coordinator) Gus Malzahn decides to retire. Mike Norvell… I like Mike Norvell. I think he’s a pretty good football coach.”
