While Kalen DeBoer continues to provide positive health updates about Alabama leading into the Rose Bowl, LT Overton remains a major question for the Crimson Tide. Overton has not played since the Iron Bowl against Auburn due to an undisclosed illness. Not much further information has been given by anyone involved.

Tuesday possibly gave us a clue on where Overton stands just before Christmas. He posted an Instagram story captioned “Back like I never left.” A picture of himself was attached, walking into a game.

Overton did not play in the SEC Championship vs. Georgia and was ruled out for the College Football Playoff first-round win in Norman. While Overton’s official Alabama roster profile says he did get snaps against Oklahoma, he was listed as out in the pregame injury report. DeBoer was asked about Overton once getting back to Tuscaloosa. The situation appears to be a fluid one before the trip out West on Jan. 1.

“LT, just continue to monitor him,” DeBoer said. “Definitely not ruling him out right now, but we’ll continue to evaluate him and see how things go here in the days ahead.”

Kickoff in the CFP quarterfinal tilt between Alabama and Indiana is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT. The Hoosiers will walk into the Rose Bowl fresh off a bye due to being the No. 1 overall seed. Hopefully, another classic plays out in front of us at the Grandaddy of Them All.

More on LT Overton, 2025 season with Alabama

Overton was one of the first players DeBoer brought into the program when taking over in January 2024. A big-time recruit himself, Overton was looking for a fresh start after his career began at Texas A&M. He has since been a productive player for the Crimson Tide.

In 12 games this season, there are 35 tackles, six tackles for a loss, and four sacks on the stat sheet for Overton. The sack total is good enough for No. 2 on the roster. Getting back on the field would bring plenty of advantages for Alabama, especially as they are set to face Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

We will have to wait to see exactly what Overton’s status is moving forward. Maybe something Alabama looks at after Christmas, just under a week before the game. Everyone in Tuscaloosa will be hoping for positive news to bolster the defensive line in the most important game of the season.
