Alabama guard Aden Holloway has been indicted on both felony charges related to marijuana possession, according to court documents. He was facing two charges including first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp.

The charges stemmed from police finding 2.1 pounds of marijuana in his Tuscaloosa apartment on March 16 — one ounce less than what the state considers considers trafficking. He was subsequently arrested and later posted a $5,000 bond.

According to the court documents, Holloway was indicted on those two charges before his preliminary hearing went forward. The hearing was canceled and “any future court dates in District Court are cancelled.” District judge Joanne M. Jannik signed the document on Thursday.

The hearing was scheduled for April 14. Now, the case now moves to circuit court.

In the aftermath of his arrest, Alabama suspended Holloway from the Crimson Tide men’s basketball program and he was removed from campus pending an investigation by the university’s Office of Student Conduct. That process is still ongoing.

However, he was granted permission to travel outside of the state of Alabama in order to attend the team’s Sweet 16 matchup last weekend. His status with the team remained unchanged, however, and he did not participate in the matchup.

Alabama head coach Nate Oats told media during their NCAA Tournament run that he met with Holloway in person and has talked to him on the phone several times: “Look, I’m an adult. I’ve made mistakes. We all have things we’d like to do differently,” Oats said. “Now is not the time to ignore a kid that you’ve built a real relationship with.”

Holloway wrapped up his second season at Alabama after originally beginning his career at Auburn. A rare transfer between the two in-state rivals, Holloway developed into a vital piece this year. Holloway is currently the Crimson Tide’s second-leading scorer, trailing only Labaron Philon. He averaged 16.8 points per game while shooting 43.8% from beyond the arc.
